Blue Level reading materials focus on the introduction of consonant blends, double consonants, and words that have 4 or more letters. There are many approaches to consonant blends, some by grouping similar l and r blends such as bl, cl, fl, br, cr, and gr, others that focus on the difference between digraphs and non-digraphs. This collection can also include digraphs like ch, ck, and gh. As students are able to grasp the concept of consonant blends, additional reading materials are introduced to support larger sentence and story-based understanding of language. This is a big step on the road to reading and most students in pre-k/kindergarten programs work here through the end of the traditional 10 month school year.
