The constructive triangles consists of 5 boxes which allow students to explore the early fundamentals of geometry. Each box explores the construction of geometric shapes composed of various triangles, which students are taught to identify and create to assist in the exploration of plan geometry.
Age
- 3 and up
Prerequisites
- Geometric Cabinet – Demonstration Tray.
- Geometric Solids – to bases.
- Each box is a prerequisite for the following boxes.
Activity Area
- Shelf to table.
Language
- Names of all place figures, shapes, and their sizes.
Materials
- Five wooden boxes containing an assortment of Masonite triangles:
- Triangles are painted yellow, green, red and gray.
- Each pair or group of triangles, are to be placed together in the initial presentation, having lines painted in black where the triangles are to be matched.
- The fifth box has an additional set of triangles, which are painted blue and have no black tracing lines. They are used to test the knowledge of the first box.
Points of Interest
- Touching the black line.
- Matching the triangles.
- Indirect superimposing when triangles fit in the box.
- Naming the shapes and the various triangles used to make them.
Control of Error
- Black guidelines of triangles.
- Color of triangles.
Direct Aims
- Show the various four sided forms constructed from two shapes.
- Development of ability to discriminate geometric forms.
- Growth in concentration and independence.
Indirect Aims
- Preparation for Geometry.
- Development of appreciation of line and form.
- Development of creativity.
Aditional Exercises
- See Individual box lessons
Extensions
